A virtual meeting was held in the VC office on thursday November 6

The Vice Chancellor, University of the Punjab, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali, convened a virtual meeting with Prof. Dr. Osama Rayis, Chair of Agripreneurship, Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD), to discuss how precision agriculture can enhance agricultural productivity and strengthen food security in Pakistan.
During the meeting, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali emphasized the pivotal role of precision agriculture in ensuring sustainable food security through optimized productivity, efficient resource utilization, and environmental conservation.

Prof. Dr. Moazur Rehman introduced the participants and highlighted the role of the Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB) in implementing Agriculture 5.0 initiatives. He also elaborated on the concept proposal of Agriculture 5.0 that had been previously shared for initial understanding.
Dr. Nadeem Majeed, Associate Professor of Data Science at the University of the Punjab, discussed the step-by-step implementation plan for Agriculture 5.0, including the development of smart greenhouses, the use of drones for disease identification, pesticide application, and crop monitoring.

Prof. Dr. Abdul Qayyum Rao underscored the importance of integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) with biotechnology to achieve advanced agricultural innovation and efficiency.
Prof. Dr. Osama Rayis elaborated on how precision agriculture contributes to global food security by producing more food with fewer resources, safeguarding the environment, and empowering farmers to adapt to climatic and economic challenges.
The participants mutually agreed that the adoption of smart farming practices is the need of the hour. They also explored various opportunities to expand these initiatives through the platform of the University of the Punjab for the benefit of Pakistan’s farming community and other OIC member countries.
